I am in awe of all the wonderful foods we are blessed to choose from - foods that nourish us, satiate us, comfort us and repair us. I never really knew the power of food until I was put on blood pressure medicine. I thought I ate well and yes, I exercised every now and then, but my blood pressure escalated to 159/94. Everyone said: "It must be genetics," even my doctor. I went through several different meds to see which one would work to keep my bp in check. I have been on three different ones, each with their own side affects. I felt old and crappy and the thought of getting pill containers with compartments marked for each day of the week…well…did not sit right with me. I was young in my mind but my body said otherwise. I started reading books on nutrition and decided I was going to closely monitor what I put into my body. After reading several cases about people healing themselves through food, I was convinced and determined to change my lifestyle overnight. Fast forward 2 years - my blood pressure is back to normal (120/59) and I am off the drugs. Oh, and the added bonus of losing 12 lbs while eating more and not feeling deprived…..priceless. Oh, and the money I am saving by not needing to take prescription medicine, I could probably buy myself a pair of Louboutins every year. I have more energy now than when I was in my twenties.
Coming from a design background, I have an appreciation for harmonious design and beauty. I have a degree in Architecture and in Fashion Design. In Architecture, I've enjoyed many years working in the corporate sector as well as smaller firms utilizing my design sensibilities and organizational skills; in Fashion Design, I've had the pleasure of designing and making one of a kind bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. The craftsmanship that went into these exquisite dresses were so that they could be worn inside out. Interior Design was my very latest venture for the past 12 years. In many ways, it was the marriage of my first two loves - working with proportions and gorgeous fabrics.
I want to translate that higher order of design and essence to empower my clients to do the same for their health and lifestyle. I find great satisfaction, pleasure and a sense of balance from sharing what I know and learn about food, nutrition, cooking and eating with my family, friends and clients.
When Hippocrates said: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,” he knew what he was talking about.
